Our History and Evolution

Lily Myers and Bob Rue co-founded Myers Rue as training and development consultants in November, 1986. We provided skills-based training solutions and specialized in presentation skills, customer service skills, and supervisory skills. By 1989, Myers Rue had several long-term clients asking us to expand our services to include executive coaching, work process redesign, strategic planning, best practices formulation, project planning, and group facilitation. Encompassing much more than training alone, organizational development now defines the scope of our expertise.

Today, Myers Rue offers training as only one piece of a larger, broader, more inclusive and complex change process that serves to smooth transitions required for client organizations to meet their strategic goals. Guided by client circumstances, Myers Rue works effectively with individuals or groups of up to 200 or more.

Among our notable successes

  • Working closely with a start-up software company's CEO and executive team for six years, Myers Rue co-created an innovative sales approach, sharpened their customer focus, trained their sales and customer service personnel, and coached the CEO to move the company from $2MM in sales to $375MM in sales.
  • Tasked to shift the culture of a joint Army/Air Force program whose mission was to acquire surveillance aircraft for the Air Force, Myers Rue coached the program director, implemented initiatives to break down internal barriers, and facilitated conferences and meetings with the main defense contractor. The result was increased end-user satisfaction, increased collaboration with several defense contractors (thus reducing litigation costs through improved communication), significantly decreased overall cost to the federal government, and delivery of nine aircraft in a row ahead of schedule and below budget.
  • Over a span of 8 years, Myers Rue co-developed and trained the customer service operation of a major insurance company. Myers Rue executed the customer service skills training and coached the department's supervisors to develop the department into a self-managing work team. As a result, the customer service department expanded from the initial 12 people to 150 people who maintained their self-managing work team.
  • Working with the Board of Trustees of a professional theater company, Myers Rue was able to introduce structure to board recruitment procedures, meetings, and strategic planning. One major result was a highly successful capital campaign that enabled the company to completely renovate the theater, rebuild the stage, and greatly expand back-stage and fly-space areas.
  • Working closely with the dining services director of a prestigious college to transform the existing dining service culture, Myers Rue conducted a thorough needs assessment, designed large group interventions that shaped a new, shared future vision, conducted training to support the changes, and coached the director in new ways of leading. After four years, the result were impressive: national recognition from the Environmental Protection Agency (the only college dining service so honored) for their innovations in sustainability coupled with overwhelming approval from campus diners.
